Our Christian Foundation & Facility Use
Poplar Point Camp is a Christ-centered Christian camp committed to serving churches, ministries, families, and groups while remaining faithful to the Christian beliefs established in our organizational bylaws.
We are Trinitarian in our belief, affirming one God—one divine substance or essence—existing eternally in three co-equal Persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our ministry and programs operate within the theological standards established by our governing board.
Our primary mission is to serve Christian churches and organizations, with priority given to groups that share and operate consistently with our statement of faith and organizational requirements. The Camp Board and Executive Director determine whether prospective groups and activities are consistent with the camp’s mission, values, policies, and bylaws.
Groups that do not require our facilities for religious purposes are also welcome to inquire about rentals when our schedule allows. Non-religious groups may use the facilities as long as their activities are consistent with our facility policies and the mission and values of Poplar Point Camp.
Our goal is to faithfully steward the property God has entrusted to us while providing a welcoming place for Christian ministry, fellowship, and community use.
How It All Began…
Nestled just outside of Sylacauga, Alabama, Poplar Point Camp sits on 83 Acres of beautiful open and forested space. For nearly 40 years now, thousands of campers have stayed here to enjoy the incredible scenery, wildlife, and family fun activities. Poplar Point Camp is a 501c3 Christian Camp, and is open year-round to host camps, retreats, dinners, weddings, and family events.
The 83 acres of camp property were purchased by the former Southern District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in August of 1980. In 1981, the building formerly used to house the Sylacauga Alliance Church was moved to the camp to be used as its chapel.
The mortgage for the land was paid off in 1983, and construction began on the Pavilion (now Redwood Lodge). It was dedicated in June of 1984, and the first camps were held that year. Campers slept in tents donated by Toccoa Falls College. The Pavilion was used for the kitchen, dining room, and bathrooms, and services were held in the chapel.
That first year, there weren’t many activities on site, so the campers ate supper at 4 pm, and then rode in buses to the Sylacauga city pool to swim! In 1985, the camp swimming pool was completed, followed by the girls’ dorms in 1986, the kitchen and dining room in 1987, and the boys’ dorm in 1988.
God has been so faithful to Poplar Point Camp over the past years, and we look forward to seeing what He has in store for the next years!

We don’t just learn about His love and teachings; we live them out daily, side by side, reflecting His light in every splash in the pool, every moment of worship, every game on the field, and even every shared meal. Here, offering our very best is an act of worship that strengthens our faith and our friendships, creating lasting memories that shape us into Christlike disciples.
Your group can rent the camp!
Open for group rentals when not in use for our programs, it is ideally located in Coosa County near the Pinhoti Trail and Flagg Mountain. This makes it a great place for churches, youth groups, college groups, or organizations to hold retreats or conferences. Our camp offers several lodging choices to fit your group’s size. We provide a full commercial kitchen, allowing either our staff or your group to prepare meals, ensuring a comfortable and convenient experience for everyone.
